James Madison Junior Fellowship Program Sponsor: James Madison Memorial Foundation Amount: Up to $24,000 over the period of study. Closing Date: March 1, 2017 Description: Fellowship is open to U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals who are teachers, or plan to become a teacher, of American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level (grades 7-12). Applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree or plan to receive a bachelor’s degree no later than Aug. 31 of the year the student is applying. Minority Teachers of Illinois (MTI) Scholarship Program Sponsor: Illinois Student Assistance Commission Amount: Up to $5,000 Closing Date: March 1, 2017 Description: Scholarship is open to residents of Illinois who are minority students of either African American/Black, Hispanic American, Asian American or Native Origin. Applicant must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at an Illinois institution of higher education in a course of study which, upon completion, qualifies them to be certified as a preschool, elementary, or secondary school teacher. Peola Smith-Smith Educational Leadership Scholarship Sponsor: National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs (NANBPWC) Amount: Varies Closing Date: March 1, 2017 Description: Scholarship is open to African American females who are either graduating high school seniors or college undergraduate students who plan to major in Education. Applicant must be a member of NANBPWC Inc. Friends of the California State Fair Scholarship Program Sponsor: California State Fair Amount: Up to $2,500 Closing Date: March 2, 2017 Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who are legal residents of California. There are 14 categories of scholarships – see website for details. In addition to the general scholarships, there are specific scholarships open to Agriculture, Art, Business, Culinary Arts, Education, Enology, Hospitality Management or Viticulture majors. PNC Foundation Scholarship Sponsor: UNCF | The PNC Foundation Amount: Up to $1,687.50 Closing Date: March 10, 2017 Description: Scholarship is open to current undergraduate students from Central and Northern New Jersey studying education or early-childhood education at a UNCF institution. Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults Sponsor: Ulman Fund for Young Adults Amount: $2,500 Closing Date: March 15, 2017 Description: Scholarship is open to individuals who have been affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one. Applicant must have been between the ages of 15 and 39 during their own diagnosis/treatment or during the diagnosis/treatment of their parent or sibling. In addition to the general scholarships, there are specific scholarships open to residents of Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC and education majors. CANFIT Scholarships Sponsor: California Adolescent Nutrition and Fitness (CANFit) Amount: Varies Closing Date: March 31, 2017 Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students attending an accredited college or university in California who are pursing degrees in Nutrition, Physical Education, or Culinary Arts. Scholarship is for international and U.S. students who are members of one of the following minority groups: African American, American Indiana/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, or Latino/Hispanic. Judith Cary Leadership Memorial Scholarship Sponsor: P. Buckley Moss Foundation Amount: Up to $1,000 Closing Date: March 31, 2017 Description: Scholarship is open to students who are working either full-time or part-time towards special needs certification or an undergraduate or graduate degree in some field of Special Education. Applicant must be nominated by a member of the P. Buckley Moss Foundation. Educators Rising Scholarships Sponsor: Educators Rising Amount: Varies Closing Date: April 1, 2017 Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors intending to attend college and major in education. Inspire Our Future Scholarship Sponsor: Teacher.org Amount: $2,500 Closing Date: April 1, 2017 Description: Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States, have at least a 3.5 GPA, and want to become a teacher. STEM Teacher Scholarships Sponsor: AFCEA Educational Foundation Amount: Up to $5,000 Closing Date: April 22, 2017 Description: Scholarship is open to students actively pursuing a graduate degree or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching STEM) subjects at a U.S. school in grades K-12.
Paying for college is one of the biggest concerns students and parents have about college.
