I would really like to encourage each of you that is still unsure of where you are going to college to consider one of Alabama’s community college options. Community College offers a quality education at a very affordable cost. I want to encourage you not to look at these options as “consolation prizes” as opposed to four-year colleges. Most offer excellent academic scholarship options and offer scholarships in the areas of performing arts, Ambassador Scholarships, and Scholarships for Technical Degrees. Most scholarship deadlines for the Community Colleges are March 1. The classes that you take will transfer to any four-year college in Alabama. Most all of Alabama’s four-year colleges offer transfer scholarships that do not consider your ACT score. I have always been a huge proponent for the Community College system, having taught there myself for over ten years. I find that may high school students are not prepared for the transition into a traditional four-year college. The smaller class sizes that are offered with the Community College system allows students to adjust to college life, learn to take notes, and to gain study skills. Some of the most successful people I know began their education at a Community College. If a student qualifies for Federal Financial Aid, the maximum amount will more than cover the cost of attendance. If you have not checked out a Community College option, please check one out today!
